Cost

Is FreeApply really free?

Yes. There is no paid tier and no credits to buy. The dashboard shows one clearly labeled sponsored card, chosen on your computer from your own targets, with no ad scripts or trackers. Donations and the opt-in Recruiter Talent Pool help keep it running.

What does it cost to run?

FreeApply itself is free. The AI work runs on the plan of the AI app you use, such as your Claude plan, and counts toward that plan's normal usage limits. When the limits run out, the run stops and can continue later.

Apps

Which AI apps does it work with?

Claude Desktop (a one-click extension), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code (Copilot agent mode) and Windsurf. Any app that runs local MCP servers over stdio can use it with a manual setup. See Install.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Not yet. ChatGPT only connects to MCP servers hosted on the internet, and FreeApply runs on your own computer so your job search stays private. A hosted version for ChatGPT is planned, with its own sign-in and privacy terms.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Claude Desktop installs FreeApply with one click. For the other apps you paste one install command into a terminal, and everything after that happens in plain conversation and in the dashboard.

Applying

How does it apply to jobs?

Your AI app searches the job sites you chose, scores each job's fit, fills in applications with your real details in your own signed-in browser session and submits them at a measured pace. Every job is logged in the dashboard. The step-by-step guide shows a full run.

How many jobs does it apply to?

As many as fit, within your limits. A pace check runs before every submit, you can set a daily cap, and jobs below your pay floor or already applied to are skipped. In one 12-hour test with two Claude Max plans it tracked 201 jobs and applied to the 61 that fit best.

Will it lie on my applications?

No. Facts come only from your résumé, your settings and answers you saved. Cover letters and answers that claim tools, numbers or experience your résumé doesn't support are refused by a built-in truthfulness check, and the AI asks you instead.

Does it need my passwords?

No. You sign in to job sites yourself in the browser your AI app uses. FreeApply never asks for, types or stores a password, and it doesn't create accounts for you.

What about CAPTCHAs, new accounts and unusual questions?

Those go to the Issues tab in the dashboard. You answer a question once and can reuse the answer on later forms; for sites that need an account, you get the sign-up link and an autofill bookmarklet for your name, email, phone and location. The AI moves on to other jobs meanwhile.

Is auto-applying allowed by job sites?

It depends on the site. Some job sites limit automated use in their terms. FreeApply works in your own signed-in session, paces submissions and pauses a site that signs you out or shows its own daily limit, but you choose which sites to use and are responsible for following their rules. See the Disclosures.

Can it check for replies from employers?

Yes, with your AI app's Gmail connector. It checks every 4 hours by default, records acknowledgements, assessments, interviews, rejections and offers against the right job, and stars or labels those emails as you choose.

Privacy

Where is my data stored?

On your computer, in the ~/.freeapply folder: your résumé, settings, applications and emails. The dashboard at http://127.0.0.1:7878 is reachable only from your computer.

What data leaves my computer?

Only what your data-sharing choices send. In the United States, anonymous usage statistics and job-market data (no name or contact details) are on by default with a one-click opt-out; everywhere else, and with Global Privacy Control, they are off unless you turn them on. Your résumé and contact details leave your computer only if you join the Recruiter Talent Pool. You can preview, sync and delete shared data in Settings. See the Privacy Policy.

What is the Recruiter Talent Pool?

An opt-in choice, off by default, that shares your contact details and résumé with recruiters looking to hire, under the Recruiter Terms. It is how FreeApply hopes to stay free without charging job seekers.

About

Is FreeApply open source?

Yes. The source code is on GitHub under the MIT License. The FreeApply name and logo aren't covered by the license.

How do I uninstall it?

In Claude Desktop: Settings → Extensions → FreeApply → Uninstall. For the other apps, run the install command with the uninstall option shown on the Install page. Your data in ~/.freeapply stays until you delete that folder.
