Install FreeApply

Pick the AI app you use. Every download is signed; the installer checks the signature before it installs anything.

Claude Desktop

Nothing else to install: Claude Desktop runs FreeApply with its own built-in Node.js.

  1. Download freeapply.mcpb (about 90 KB, version latest).
  2. Double-click the file, or in Claude Desktop open Settings → Extensions and drag it in.
  3. Click Install. Claude may note that the extension has no code-signing certificate (those are paid); the package is signed with our own release key instead (how to check).

Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf

One command finds the apps on your computer and asks before adding FreeApply to each. It needs Node.js 22.13 or newer (nodejs.org).

Windows (PowerShell)

irm https://www.mybotsai.com/appserver/install.ps1 | iex

macOS and Linux (Terminal)

curl -fsSL https://www.mybotsai.com/appserver/install.sh | bash
Prefer to read before you run? Open install.ps1, install.sh and install.mjs in your browser. The installer downloads the package, checks its signature and checksum, unpacks it into your user folder, and edits only each app's MCP settings file (keeping a backup next to it).

What it changes, per app:

  • Claude Code: runs claude mcp add -s user freeapply … and installs FreeApply's skills in ~/.claude/skills.
  • Cursor: adds freeapply to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
  • VS Code: adds freeapply to your user mcp.json (use it from Copilot Chat in agent mode).
  • Windsurf: adds freeapply to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.
  • Claude Desktop: adds freeapply to Claude's claude_desktop_config.json. Quit Claude completely and reopen it afterwards. (Already installed the extension? Keep only one of the two.)

Manual setup

Any app that runs local MCP servers over stdio can use FreeApply. Download and unpack freeapply.mcpb (it is a ZIP file), then add a server that runs Node.js on src/main.js:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "freeapply": { "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/freeapply/src/main.js"] }
  }
}

After installing

  1. Restart your AI app.
  2. Say "Set up FreeApply". Your dashboard opens at http://127.0.0.1:7878, on your computer only.
  3. Read and accept the Terms there yourself, then fill in Settings: résumé, roles, pay, locations, eligibility and job sites.
  4. Sign in to your job sites in the browser your AI app uses. Then say "Find me jobs and apply".
Your job-search data lives in ~/.freeapply on your computer.

Uninstall

Claude Desktop: Settings → Extensions → FreeApply → Uninstall. Other apps:

Windows

$env:FREEAPPLY_ARGS='--uninstall'; irm https://www.mybotsai.com/appserver/install.ps1 | iex

macOS and Linux

curl -fsSL https://www.mybotsai.com/appserver/install.sh | bash -s -- --uninstall

This removes FreeApply from your apps and deletes the program files. Your data in ~/.freeapply stays until you delete that folder.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects only to MCP servers hosted on the internet, and FreeApply runs on your own computer so your job search stays private. A hosted version for ChatGPT is planned; it will have its own sign-in and privacy terms.
