A job-search agent that runs on your computer
FreeApply doesn't run an AI of its own. It gives the AI app you already use the tools, procedures and guardrails to search for jobs, fill in applications and keep track of everything, while your data stays on your computer.
Three parts, and only one of them is ours to host.
FreeApply is an MCP server: the standard way AI apps such as Claude, Cursor and VS Code connect to tools. It runs as a local process that your AI app starts and talks to over stdio, not as a website you log in to.
AIYour AI app
Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf does the thinking and the browsing: it reads postings, decides what fits and fills in forms in your browser session. It runs on your own plan.
⌂FreeApply, on your computer
The MCP server (Node.js, no dependencies) with 25 tools, the signed procedures your AI follows, a local database in ~/.freeapply and the dashboard at http://127.0.0.1:7878, reachable only from your computer.
↻Our small server
This website, the downloads, signed updates, the sponsored-card pack and the anonymous statistics you choose to share. It never sees your résumé or applications unless you join the Recruiter Talent Pool.
What happens when you say "find me jobs and apply"
- Check and planYour AI app asks FreeApply whether the Terms are accepted, setup is complete and the signed workflow is intact, then loads the procedure for applying.
- SearchIt searches the job sites you chose for your target roles and locations. Employer career pages on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby are read through their public APIs, which saves tokens.
- Score and claimEach job gets a fit score from 0 to 100. A duplicate check runs before a job is claimed, so reposts and jobs you already applied to are skipped, and posted pay below your floor is recorded as skipped.
- Fill inThe AI fills the form with your real details, your résumé and answers you saved. Cover letters and free-text answers must pass the truthfulness check first.
- Pace and submitRight before each submit, the pace check must clear. An application can't be recorded as sent without that clearance.
- Log and hand overEvery job lands in the dashboard. CAPTCHAs, new accounts, passwords and questions your settings don't answer go to the Issues tab for you.
Rules enforced in code, not just written in a prompt.
An AI can be talked out of an instruction. It can't be talked out of a tool that refuses the call.
#Signed workflow
The procedures, server instructions and hard limits ship signed with our release key. If anything edits them, the tools lock until the official copy is restored, and an update installs only when its signature checks out.
✓Truthfulness check
Cover letters and answers that claim tools, numbers or years of experience your résumé and settings don't support are refused. The AI has to ask you instead.
≡Pace and limits
A per-minute pace check before every submit, an optional daily cap you set, and a site that signs you out or shows its own daily limit is paused while the others continue.
⊘Hands off your accounts
FreeApply never asks for, types or stores a password, never creates accounts and never solves CAPTCHAs. You sign in to job sites yourself in the browser your AI app uses.
What stays on your computer, and what can leave it
Your résumé, settings, applications and emails are stored in ~/.freeapply on your computer. What can be shared depends on your choices in Settings → Data sharing, where you can preview exactly what would be sent and delete everything already shared.

Your AI plan does the heavy lifting
Most auto-apply tools run the AI on their own servers, so they have to charge subscriptions or sell credits to cover it. FreeApply runs on the AI app you already pay for or use for free, so there's no AI bill on our side, and the server behind this site stays small.
What keeps it running: one clearly labeled sponsored card in the dashboard (chosen on your computer, with no ad scripts or trackers), donations, and the opt-in Recruiter Talent Pool. The source code is open under the MIT License.
